A Visit To The Florida Rowing Center
Recently I attended the Florida Rowing Center in Wellington Fl. on Wellington Lake. I've been going there during "Presidents Week" for a few years now. Fortunately my sister has a townhouse on the lake, making my visits both extra pleasant and economical. I had a great time as usual. You get to row up to three sessions a day. The first session begins at 7:30. During this session you get a video taken of you. After a hardy lunch at the local restaurant, everyone goes back for video analysis. Video is a great way to combat denial It's hard to ignore what you can see on the tube.
The coaches are good at bringing out the best in the rowers. They point out your assets as well as your faults. You don't walk away feeling like a total mess, but you know what to work on in order to improve. They're capable of helping every level of sculler, from neophite to racer. I've added a few pictures from the Center. Click on the pictures. You're sure to enjoy the sequence regarding getting back in a single shell single handed. Naomi, the center's present director, demonstrates this quite admirably.
