

Fact Sheet
COURSE: The Erie Canal at Rome offers a nearly straight uninterrupted expanse of sheltered water that will facilitate
racing in almost any weather conditions. You will race three (3) miles from canal marker 649 past the launch site at the
Rome Rowing Center to the James St. bridge. There will be no turns or obstacles to negotiate along the course. Row to
the right at all times; pass only on the left. See the attached map segment.
DOCKING FACILITIES: All shells will launch from the Rome Rowing Center located on Muck Road in the city of
Rome. This public boat launch facility will offer parking and launch access to the canal. There will be portable sanitary
facilities, and drinking water at the site. There is no camping at this site, and no alcoholic beverages are allowed.
ENTRIES: Entries are due no later than Wednesday, October 3, 2007. Refunds will be given for scratches, which are
communicated prior to Wednesday, October 3, 2007 by 5:00 PM. Lightweight entries will race with open entries, but will
be timed separately.
REGISTRATION: Registration is the same day as the regatta and located at the Rome Rowing Center. Registration
opens at 7:30 AM. All crews must be registered no later than one hour before the start of their race in order to
participate. Each participant must sign a copy of the enclosed waiver of liability form to be turned in at registration.
SAFETY: The enclosed map segment shows the location of the course. All racers should keep to the extreme right side of
the course during the race. Be aware of white canal mile markers, on the right side of canal. The Canal will NOT be closed
to boat traffic during the races; however all boats will be advised of the race in progress and no wake speed will be
enforced.
ENTRY DEFINITIONS:
Youth Eighteen years old and under at regatta date; not open to college Freshman.
Open Any high school, club rower or crew may enter these events.
Masters Any rower who will have attained age 27 on or before regatta date.
Veterans 50+, 5 second handicap for each year over 50.
Novice Any rower who started rowing after 1/1/07, may enter these Events. Sweep rowers who began sculling after this
date may Enter novice sculling events.
Lightweight 135 lb. Max. women, 160 lb. Max men, weigh-in for winning crew only, after the race at registration.
RULES: USRA Rules of Racing shall apply. Boats being overtaken must yield to the passing boat. The overtaking boat
must allow ample clearance before moving in front of the passed boat. Numbered bibs will be worn by the bow
oarsperson. Bib numbers will be provided at registration for each crew, and are to be turned in after the race to the dock
master. Boats without bow balls and quick release foot gear will not be permitted to launch.
START: All crews are responsible for being in the marshaling area at least five minutes prior to the start of the race.
Coxswains should observe the bib numbers of other crews and line up accordingly. Boats that arrive late to the start or are
out of order, will be started at the discretion of the starting official and will be assessed a 30-second penalty.
THE FINISH: Participants must past the marker at the (Finish Line) and proceed past the bridge before turning around.
All crews must wait beyond the bridge until all crews have passed the finish line, or the finish line marshal tells you to
proceed back to the launch dock.
PROTEST: Any protest must be submitted to the Registration Desk within one hour of the finish of the last crew in the
event in question. A $20.00 fee must accompany the protest This fee is refunded if the protest is upheld.
FACILITIES: The Rome area offers some outstanding facilities for overnight lodging or eating. Please contact Gerry Lacy

AWARDS: First, second and third place metals will be awarded in each event. Trophies will be awarded to the winning
boat in each event. the awards will be given out at the end of the last race.
